Periodontal Procedure

Dental disease is categorized into grades, from mild gingivitis (Grade 1) to severe periodontal disease with tooth loss (Grade 4), with each stage requiring progressively more intensive treatment.

Periodontal procedures are essential for maintaining your pet's oral health and preventing serious dental issues. These procedures address various stages of periodontal disease, which affects the structures supporting the teeth, including the gums, bones, and ligaments. While a dental procedure won't completely prevent dental disease, it significantly slows its progression and helps manage existing issues.

During a periodontal procedure, our team performs a thorough cleaning below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar buildup. This is followed by scaling and polishing to smooth the tooth surfaces and reduce the risk of future plaque accumulation. If needed, we may also address gum inflammation and infection with additional treatments or medications.

While a dental procedure will not prevent dental disease, it will slow its progression.

Daily dental care helps prevent tooth loss, reduces bad breath, and supports overall health by minimizing the risk of systemic infections linked to dental disease.

We recommend following the guidelines set by the Veterinary Oral Health Council when choosing dental hygiene products for your pet.
